Tom Grant Plant in pink! This excellent little digger is onsite with us today digging trial pits for some more information about what kind of foundations we’re going to use.

The back of Plot 4
The back of Plot 4Ever since we were enlisted on the project, we’ve been finding any excuse to head up to the site… Usually on a sunny day…! On this day we scrambled down on to the site from the canal side.

Bantaskin Street 2018
Bantaskin Street 2018We love this beautiful, big, secluded spot, right by the canal. Can’t quite believe we will be building our house here. So many trees, so close to the River Kelvin, Dawsholme Park and the river walkway. Hope on your bike and it’s a 12 minute cycle to the city centre…!

where to put the caravan...
where to put the caravan...We aren’t sure yet if we will be able to put our caravan on our own plot right away, as we can’t secure funds from the bank until July… A kind neighbour has offered us his plot for a few months. We’ll be site security! We’ve seen some 32” static caravans in Loch Gelly and we are KEEN AS MINCE. My main concern is that I won’t want to leave the caravan….
limbo!
limbo!Cloth tape from A-B… We have loads of space! We don’t want to caravan to get stuck at the back of the plot once the house is up, so ideally we’ll slip it in sideways, so it can be transported off down the side of the house after wards… That is unless we hang on to it and turn it in to our guest house!

street-side
street-sideNo windows added to this model yet… We’re restricted to 20% timber cladding by our lender, so might look at board and baton style timber cladding on this north face. Luckily this is something we could do ourselves! We love American style barns, with a really simple floor-plan and straight-up rectangular footprint.
South Facing Gable End
South Facing Gable EndOur most recent SketchUp model of the house… We’re currently pricing up how much glazing we can afford. Still to add windows to the aisle in the model - don’t worry, there will be some…! We’re looking at red and black insulated tin roofs.
